Results of Study between Becker Genuine Replacement Vanes vs. Counterfeit Vanes for Oil‐less Rotary Vane Vacuum Pumps
Cuyahoga Falls, OH (May 2017) – Becker Pumps Corporation reported the results of a planned, year-long vane study measuring the longevity, wear, and break-down of non-OEM vanes used in Becker oil-less rotary vane pumps.
The vanes are the most important wearing part of a rotary vane pump. Over the past five years, there has been a surge in replacement vane manufacturers/suppliers that claim their vanes are direct replacements and even go as far as presenting the vanes as Becker Genuine parts/vanes. Becker repair technicians became aware of these “knock-off” counterfeit vanes as pumps were sent in because the failure of these vanes had seized and damaged the pump.
“At first, we thought it was our vanes that were causing the issue,” stated Darin Ladd, National Sales Manager, “but Becker vanes are uniquely designed to operate at the maximum rated vacuum level and not damage the pump as they wear. What we discovered was the customer thought they were buying Becker replacement vanes, but they weren’t which prompted further investigation.”
Over the past eleven months, Becker has tested the imposter vanes running two identical pumps; one with genuine Becker vanes and the other with counterfeit vanes. “The results were astonishing,” stated Mike Ruff, Technical Service Coordinator, who was responsible for the testing, “We had planned for at least a year long test, but within months, the phony vanes started cupping and chipping resulting in a significant drop in vacuum and increase in heat discharge.”
The Becker test results showed that within just 5 months, the counterfeit vanes lost 6% of their vacuum level while the genuine Becker vanes were 100% intact. The counterfeit vanes began to chip at a mere 300 hours. The genuine Becker vanes ran this entire time and an additional six months without any loss in operating pressure. Genuine Becker vanes are designed to operate at full factory specification and only show loss when approaching the stated minimum vane width requirement. This loss in vacuum level is the indication that vanes need to be replaced.
In response to the problems that Becker customers faced with the imposter vanes, Becker has launched a Genuine Parts Program where all of their vanes feature a holographic emblem ensuring the authenticity of the vanes. Genuine Becker vanes are only available from Becker Pumps Corporation.
